Rainburg Story

Born from the rain.

Designed in Hamburg. Engineered for the weather we live in.

The Name

How rain inspired a brand, and why we almost called ourselves something else entirely.

Rainburg is a portmanteau of two things: "Rain" and "Hamburg." It's a name rooted in place, in geography, in the stubborn reality of where we design and what we see every single day.

Hamburg is one of Europe's rainiest cities. Not dramatic cloudbursts, but persistent, patient drizzle. The kind of rain that becomes invisible until you're moving through the city on a bike, hiking through the wetlands, or living your life in gear that wasn't quite waterproof enough. The kind of rain that teaches you to notice.

We wanted a name that told that truth—one that said this is where we're from, and this is what drives us. Rainburg means we obsess over waterproofing, durability, and materials that actually work, because we live in the rain.

Fun internal fact: We joke that we should have called ourselves "Rainbug" instead. Hamburg's rain is so reliable, so constant, that "bug" might capture it better than anything else.

The Studio

Where the designs come to life, in the heart of Hamburg's historic warehouse district.

We design in Speicherstadt, Hamburg's warehouse district—a place of brick, water, and history. Beautiful 19th-century buildings line the canals, converted from ship cargo storage into studios, galleries, and workshops. It's a neighborhood that understands durability. Nothing here was built to be temporary.

That architectural ethos has seeped into how we think about design. Every jacket, every detail, every material choice is meant to endure. Not just survive the rain, but age well. To become better with time, not worse.

Working in Speicherstadt means we're constantly inspired by the craftsmanship around us—old textiles, precision engineering, the marriage of form and function. It reminds us that we're not selling fashion. We're selling tools that happen to look good.

Materials & Engineering

Technical excellence from two of Europe's finest textile regions.

We source technical membranes from Japan and performance textiles from Switzerland— two regions with obsessive attention to material science. Japanese membranes are the gold standard in waterproofing: incredibly thin, breathable, and invisible inside your jacket. Swiss textiles are precision-engineered for durability and stretch.

This combination gives us 15,000mm waterproof rating, which means these jackets can handle serious rain. That's not marketing speak—it's the depth of water pressure the fabric can withstand before water penetrates. It's industrial-grade durability applied to clothing you actually wear.

Every seam is sealed. Every zip is tested for durability. We don't cut corners on materials, because the point of a €279 jacket is that you don't have to buy another one in two years.

Philosophy

We believe gear should work for you, not against the clock.

There's a toxic idea in fashion that clothes should fall apart so you'll buy more. We reject that entirely. A Rainburg jacket is built to last your lifetime.

Lifetime repair guarantee. If something goes wrong with materials or construction, we fix it. Not for 5 years or 10 years. Permanently. Because quality doesn't have an expiration date.

We don't do planned obsolescence. We don't sell you something designed to fail. We design for humans who bike in the rain, hike on weekends, live actual lives that need actual gear. The founder grew up cycling and hiking through Hamburg's persistent drizzle, and wanted something that actually worked. We all still feel that.

That's why every material choice, every seam, every detail is obsessed over. Not because we're perfectionists (though we are). Because a jacket that works means you trust us. And trust is worth more than any trend.
